A New Flock of Joy: White Oak Villages Welcomes Baby Chicks to Our Assisted Living Homes
At our two residential assisted living homes in Ellicott City, MD, we’re always looking for meaningful ways to bring joy, purpose, and comfort to our residents’ daily lives. This spring, we introduced something truly special: baby chicks!
Our newest feathered friends have been an instant hit with the residents. From the moment the chicks arrived, there’s been a spark of excitement in the air. Residents gather around to watch them peep, scratch, and explore their cozy brooder. For many, the experience brings back fond memories of farm life or raising animals during their younger years. For others, it’s simply a delightful and therapeutic encounter with nature.
But the chicks aren’t just here to be cute (though they certainly are!). As they grow, they’ll become part of a sustainable and enriching project—providing fresh, homegrown eggs for our residents. Not only does this support healthy eating, but it also gives our community a shared sense of purpose and involvement in something greater.
Animal-assisted activities like this have proven benefits for seniors, including reduced stress, improved mood, and increased social interaction. We’ve already seen how a few fluffy chicks can bring smiles, spark conversations, and even encourage more movement and engagement.
We’re proud to offer more than just care—we create a home filled with love, connection, and meaningful experiences. Stay tuned as we share updates on our growing flock and the fresh eggs that will soon be part of our residents’ breakfast plates!
